As 2018 comes to an end, it’s time to look back at the best new TV shows that have entered our lives this year.

Whilst existing series like The Good Place, Game of Thrones, Westworld, Sense8 and This is Us have blessed us with brilliant new episodes, it’s the new additions to TV that have left their mark.

Let’s look back on 8 of the best new TV shows of 2018.

1. The Haunting of Hill House

Audiences flocked to The Haunting of Hill House to get a good scare. Nobody expected the emotion they’d feel after watching it. The Crain family pulled us all into their lives. Once you watch the first episode, you can’t pull yourself away from it. There’s well crafted timelines, the acting is phenomenal, there was an 18 minute scene with no cuts and the jump scares stopped hundreds of beating hearts.

2. Killing Eve

Sandra Oh and Jodie Comer. If you had to sum up why Killing Eve is so brilliant in just a few words, all you’d need is those two names. These actors are both deserving of every acting award there is after the performances they gave in Killing Eve. The dynamic between the two characters is almost inexplainable. On paper, they’re enemies who should want the other out of the picture. Instead, they have this insane fascination with one another that borderlines obsession. If you’re a sucker for a fictional psychopath, Vilanelle is your girl.

3. Sharp Objects

Amy Adams powerfully led this miniseries (based on the Gillian Flinn novel) through her portrayal of Camille, who’s battling a long list of inner and outer demons whilst investigating murders in her hometown. This is the type of show that you need to pay attention to, as if you don’t give it your full focus you’ll be too quick to judge it’s pace and tone.

4. Manifest

The show got instant attention when the first 9 minutes of episode 1 were released on social media. The show gives off some serious ‘LOST’ vibes, as passengers on a turbulent plane journey land back home to find that five years have passed for everyone but them.

5. Chilling Adventures of Sabrina

If you were a fan of the 90s show ‘Sabrina the Teenage Witch’, you’d have either been ecstatic at the thought of a reboot or weary about whether they could do it justice. Chilling Adventures of Sabrina is drastically different from the orginal series and is a lot more spooky. Even though some felt the series didn’t quite meet the mark, it has been renewed for a second, giving it the opportunity to gain more focus.

6. Bodyguard

The BBC have a long list of strong dramas. After bringing in the highest viewing figures for them since 2008, Bodyguard certainly sits high on their list of best shows. Starring Game of Throne’s Richard Madden and Line of Duty’s Keeley Hawes, this series had tensions high and viewers at the edges of their seats; watching in anticipation of what event would shock them next.

7. Maniac

Emma Stone, Jonah Hill and Justin Theroux gave stellar performances in Maniac which carried the show from start to finish. It’s beautifully styled cinematography captured many people’s attention and the unconventional, insane narrative makes it an exciting new series for Netflix.

8. Lost in Space

This reboot of the 60s classic didn’t thrill everyone. However, many sci-fi lovers thoroughly enjoyed the twists and turns that this new space series contained. Although, it will need a few fixes if the second series wants to deliver, there’s definite hope here.
