The Walking Dead returns tonight with the second half of season 8 and the anticipation is certainly building. Although part A may not have been as action packed as fans may have liked, the final episode left us with a lot to process.
So, before we get into The Walking Dead Season 8B, let’s quickly recap what happened in the mid-season finale.
- Carl was bitten in the torso
- Eugene helped Father Gabriel escape
- Negan burnt down Alexandria and everyone fled to hide in the sewers
- King Ezekial got caught by the Saviors
- After watching one of her men get killed, Maggie shot dead a Savior
- Aaron and Enid are at Oceanside
Now, what do we know about 8B and who’s going to make it?
Will Carl Survive?
The biggest question on everyone’s minds is of course what’s going to happen to Carl.
Judging by the cast and crew’s interviews, things aren’t looking hopeful for Carl. When asked when he found out about this storyline, Chandler Riggs said:
“It was quite the shocker for me, Andy and everyone because I don’t think anyone saw it coming. It’s definitely not a bad thing because it has been awesome being on the show, but now I get to go and do a lot of other stuff that I haven’t gotten to do before. Scott wanted to meet in person because it was such a big deal.”
But, he also went on to say that “Although Carl’s story is coming to an end, it’s not over yet.”.
It seems episode 9 will be a big episode for Carl, Rick and Michonne and whatever unfolds is going to leave a big impact. While it may end up being the episode where we watch his journey end, it may not be the last we see of Carl as we still have the “old man Rick” scene and potential memories/visions of him reappearing.
There’s also been talk of Carl’s final moments mirroring Lori’s. Scott Gimble said: “I will say there are parallels there, and it was very much in our mind.”
Lori’s final words to her son were to “always do what’s right” and the midseason finale highlighted Carl doing just that, as he heroically saved the people of Alexandria and stood up to Negan. Before Carl dies, we’ll likely see him sharing some wisdom to Rick on how he should move forward.
How Will Morgan Exit?
In case you missed it or simply need your mind refreshing, it was announced that Lennie James would be departing from The Walking Dead to join the cast of Fear The Walking Dead.
We don’t know anything about the timeline of the new series of Fear in relation to when it’s taking place in TWD, which makes theorising difficult. There’s also the huge uncertainty of whether Morgan will be killed off at the end of The Walking Dead season 8. Morgan was out of the picture for a long time and thus it’s plausible for us to see his past in Fear. However, there is also the chance that Morgan may leave the group at the end of season 8 and enter the world of FTWD.
Lennie James has spoken out about it being done in an interesting way, stating “hopefully it’s going to be a surprise to people” – so for now, buy prednisone 20 mg we’re just going to have to keep guessing.
Who Else Could Leave?
No one is safe on The Walking Dead. This is something we’ve all learnt after 8 seasons.
The chances of just one or two people dying are extremely slim and as 8B looks action packed, the stakes are even higher.
The character most fans are fearing for at the minute is Maggie. This comes after the announcement that Lauren Cohan has been cast on a new ABC pilot drama. She could of course film the two shows together, but her contract for season 9 hasn’t been confirmed and there were reports of discussions surrounding her salary compared to her male costars – which may have resulted in Cohan wanting to leave.
If Maggie was to die, then the fact that she’s pregnant in the middle of an apocalypse isn’t exactly in her favour. We also know that Negan wants her and with her leading the Hilltop, he’ll do whatever it takes to stop her.
Losing Maggie would be huge and the fan reaction to it definitely won’t be pleasant. Maggie has survived so much loss and torment and always comes out on the other side even stronger than she was before. Until the season unfolds, let’s try to hang onto hope and believe that Maggie will make it.
And what about Rick and Negan? Do we think either of them could be saying goodbye at the end of 8B?
Negan has had a few near misses lately after being shot at and surrounded by walkers, so could his end be sooner that expected? Based on the comics, there’s still a lot that we haven’t seen from Negan and the showrunners likely aren’t ready to end the rivalry just yet.
But, the tagline for the season has been “All Out War” with a huge emphasis on Rick vs Negan, so one of them may triumph.
Being the show’s lead, some fans feel that Rick is untouchable and if he does ever die, it likely won’t be until the show ends. But can we really guarantee he’ll survive until then?
Losing Carl my cause Rick to spiral out of control and it’ll be interesting to see how he handles it. If he loses anyone else, Negan may use it to his advantage. We also have a lot of strong new leaders emerging and Rick is no longer the only one who’s keeping the group alive.
We also have the “old man Rick” scene still to come which fans are still speculating about. One plausible possibility could be that it’s Rick envisioning an alternate future right before he dies.
There’s also a lot of other characters who could be at risk. With Danai Gurera taking over Hollywood, could she leave her role as Michonne behind? If Negan catches Daryl again, could he kill him? Or could Dwight turn back onto Negan’s side and kill him? Will Tara and Rosita make it through another season? Carol has been indestructible so far, but could something stand in her way in 8B?
Could they really take such a risk and kill off another key character in The Walking Dead season 8B? Share your theories in the comments!
